I met Maralyn Tassone almost 7 years ago. A temporary Marketing Specialist position opened up at the Durham Region Unemployed Help Centre (DRUHC) and I applied. Maralyn is the Executive Director for DRUHC and I was interviewed by her… periodically, she would look up to smile and offer encouragement. I got the job and am grateful to still work as a contractor for DRUHC.
Maralyn is an incredible mentor for me. It is an honour to brainstorm and collaborate with her. She is business-minded, community driven and client focused. She combines great ideas with practical solutions and enthusiastically shares her vast knowledge and expertise.
Maralyn is attentive to fiscal responsibility and knows how to run and grow a business. In her 33 years at DRUHC she has helped grow the non-profit from a 60k, 2-person operation to a 4M, 45+ person organization, continuously building on services and offerings for job seekers, employers and newcomers.
Maralyn works closely with local businesses and employers. She understands what businesses need in today’s economy. Her commitment to quality assurance and customer service earned DRUHC the distinction of ISO Certification for more than 14 years.
I often receive interesting articles from Maralyn. She has her finger on the pulse of relevant municipal, provincial, national and international issues. Understanding the value of partnerships, she has forged long-lasting relationships with many stakeholders and partners within government, non-profit, education and business.
Maralyn’s commitment to diversity, accessibility and inclusivity is evidenced in her team – made up of more than 45 highly skilled, educated professionals from over 15 countries, speaking many different languages. In 2017, DRUHC won a Diversity Champion Award.
When Maralyn started at the Unemployed Help Centre (thirty-two years ago) she was a single mother of three girls. She understands the challenges that many are faced with. She is hands-on and listens to individual concerns and takes action.
After years of working in corporate, non-profit was a welcome change for me. Under Maralyn’s leadership, the culture of the organization is truly focused on improving lives, building community and growing the economy.
I was thrilled to learn that Maralyn Tassone is running for Council in my municipality – Clarington, Ward 2. Maralyn is well respected in the community for her leadership, integrity and delivery. I know she has the right intentions, abilities and connections to make a big difference in our community.
Please take the time to look at her website and read about her platform: www.maralyntassone.ca. Maralyn Tassone is interested in balancing economic growth with a healthy, thriving eco-system. She wants to build communities where we care about each other and is interested in pro-active rather than reactive solutions to safety and protection in our region.
